To borrow a catchy phrase from our friends at Coalition for a Safer Manhasset,
"What's wrong with this picture......?"
These are some pictures illustrating just some of the issues KMB volunteers address:
LITTER
Can you believe this is Manhasset?? Well, it is. The first two pictures are of a bus stop on Northern Boulevard, right across Christ Church. Disgusting. KMB volunteers cleaned the litter in this area repeatedly, only to see the litter quickly accumulate again -- that's why we need to increase awareness and change attitudes.
We're pleased to report that, in January 2009, local officials installed the new trash bin KMB has been pushing for for many months.
This, too, is Manhasset; another bus stop, this one on Community Drive -- real classy!! Would you be proud to have your friends and family come to visit you and drive by this mess? Neither would we. We brought this to the Town's attention and they cleaned this up right away.
GRAFFITI
KMB has alerted several commercial landlords about graffiti on their property and ask them to clean it up. KIMCO Realty was nice enough to take care of this eyesore within just a few hours after we brought it to their attention -- thank you, KIMCO for a prompt and responsible response

ILLEGAL SIGNS
KMB volunteers have taken down HUNDREDS of illegal signs plastered all over the community from people and businesses trying to make a quick buck and who couldn't care less about Manhasset.
We call and write these people to (nicely) ask them to remove their illegal signs. If they don't, we make sure the Town FINE$ them.
Local businesses have no right to post signs or have sign walkers roaming our streets advertising "sales" "clearance events" or "going out of business sales" (or anything else) without permits. Aside from being illegal, these practices also detract from the character, quality and beauty of Manhasset. If you see such signs please email us, call the local business and object, and call/email the Town of North Hempstead (dial "311" or contact the Town of North Hempstead).
Here's a photo of a guy The Sharper Image (formerly in the Americana Manhasset) hired to patrol Northern Boulevard -- that's St. Mary's Church he decided to plop right down in front of with his sign. Is this the Manhasset you always dreamed of living in??
Here's another fellow The Sharper Image hired to stand on the sidewalk on Northern Boulevard.
Yet another picture of a Sharper Image guy, this one right across the beautiful Americana. Local businesses have no right to harm the character of our beautiful community like this.
Other local businesses are jumping on the bandwagon. Here's some photos of a few guys Linens 'n Things hired to stand on Northern Boulevard to advertise their "store closing" sale. They have no right to do this. KMB pressured the store to restrict this activity, and they left shortly thereafter -- good riddance. The Town of North Hempstead has to do a MUCH better job at policing and preventing such activity.
That's Christ Church these guys are standing in front of and across the street from.
Here's a picture of a large red banner Michaels Arts & Crafts recently displayed on Northern Blvd. We certainly welcome sales, but not this type of advertising, which just takes away from the beauty of Manhasset. We and the Town asked Michaels to please take down the banner and they agreed to do so. Many thanks to the Town of North Hempstead, Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, Manhasset Park District and local residents for taking prompt action.
And here are some more cheap (and illegal) signs affixed to utility poles, advertising anything from "powerwashing" services to jobs where you can supposedly make "CEO income from home." One would think that if these businesses could afford to pay "CEO" salaries they could afford an ad in the paper.
This charming cheap sign is posted right by Manhasset's Valley Park. Please don't hire any of these businesses -- these people couldn't care less about Manhasset.
great you remove junk.......
Go remove this sign!
If you don't respect our beautiful community, you don't deserve to do business here. Good riddance.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Can you imagine what Manhasset would look like if all businesses could just put up signs as they pleased?? If you see these signs, just take them down and call the phone number to tell them not to put it up any more. They have no right to do this to our beautiful community. Enough is enough -- Keep Manhasset Beautiful!
